Milwaukee Collegiate Academy has opened its doors to College Possible Milwaukee, a local office of a nationally-recognized college access and success program. This new site will allow College Possible Milwaukee to make college admission and success possible for more low-income students than ever before.
College Possible will recruit at least 15 students to participate at Milwaukee Collegiate Academy.
Historically, College Possible Milwaukee juniors have raised their ACT scores by more than 18%, and 96% of seniors have earned admission to college. Nationally, 80% of College Possible students who enroll in college have graduated or are working toward their degree- compared to the 8 percent of low-income students nationwide by age 24.
“We are thrilled to be able to serve even more Milwaukee students at Milwaukee Collegiate Academy,” said Edie Turnbull, executive director of College Possible Milwaukee. “We look forward to building strong relationships with Milwaukee Collegiate Academy to help more students earn college admission and ultimately four-year degrees.”
“At Milwaukee Collegiate Academy, we share a sincere belief that every scholar who joins the MCA team and family can and will go to and through college. This core belief is at heart of everything we do,” said Principal Rashida Evans. “We are proud of our collaboration and partnership with College Possible as we work to carry out our mission.”
The addition of this site brings College Possible Milwaukee’s presence to 13 Milwaukee-area schools.
In the 2014-15 school year, College Possible Milwaukee will launch “Scale Up 2 College,” an expansion plan that will allow the organization to increase its impact on the city of Milwaukee. Supported by a lead funder, the Burke Foundation, the Scale Up 2 College expansion will enable College Possible to serve 720 more Milwaukee students when it reaches fruition.
Launched in 2008, College Possible Milwaukee serves more than 3,300 low-income high school and college age students through its college access and completion programs. Nationwide, College Possible’s innovative and award-winning model serves nearly 19,000 Minnesota, Nebraska, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin students.
