Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy is happy to announce that Nikiya Dodd has been appointed as the school’s Director of Development. The creation of this new role coincides with a period of rapid expansion for the Academy, which has recently seen the groundbreaking for a new high school in Milwaukee’s famed Bronzeville neighborhood and the hiring of Marcus Robinson as the institution’s first CEO.

“I am delighted to have Nikiya on board and to expand our team,” Robinson said. “HFCA is poised for future growth and Nikiya has the passion, experience, and vision to advance our mission of sending even more Milwaukee students to and through college. I am confident that she will be a great asset to the school and the families that we serve.”

Dodd comes to Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy with a deep familiarity of the city of Milwaukee. She most recently concluded a four-year term on the Milwaukee Common Council as 5th District alderwoman, during which she participated in key decisions related to business improvement, district development, policy and procedure issues. She was elected in the November 2018 special election and reelected in April 2020 by popular vote.

Dodd also served as a Wisconsin state senator for the 6th District for five years and is a former member of the Milwaukee County Board. In addition to her legislative experiences, Dodd previously worked as an associate development director for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Born and raised in Milwaukee, Dodd graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a bachelor’s degree in educational policy and community studies. She also holds a master’s degree in administrative leadership, as well as a graduate certificate in nonprofit management from the Helen Bader Institute of Nonprofit Management.

“I am incredibly honored and humbled to take on this new chapter of my career,” said Dodd. “I look forward to continuing to serve the city of Milwaukee and to work for an organization whose mission and vision so closely align with my own long-term interests in making a meaningful and lasting community impact.”

In her role as development director, Dodd will oversee Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy’s fundraising, event planning, communication and alumni and donor efforts.

“2022 has been a momentous year for us filled with infrastructure, academic and operational growth,” said Michelle Nettles, chair of the academy’s board of directors. “Nikiya has a wealth of local knowledge and experiences in the Milwaukee community, and I know I speak for the entire HFCA board of directors when I say that we look forward to 2023 and seeing HFCA reach even new heights under her stewardship.”

In July of this year, Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy launched its Commit to the Future capital campaign, which aims to raise $25 million for the construction of a new high school and renovation and conversion of the existing high school into a feeder middle school. The school has raised $19.5 million and plans to begin construction of the new high school are currently underway in Milwaukee’s Bronzeville neighborhood.
