PERSONALIZED LEARNING at
Dr. howard fuller collegiate academy

We are transforming how kids in Milwaukee learn,
ensuring our scholars are prepared to go to and through college.

Progress Report from Milwaukee Collegiate Acacemy, Summer 2017

MCA believes that every student is unique — from their hairstyle to their favorite music to the way they learn.

What is
Personalized
Learning?

To close the opportunity gap, MCA is offering students more ownership, independence, and autonomy over their learning while strengthening their identity.

Personalized learning puts each student at the center of their own learning. Teachers are empowered to customize instruction to meet their students’ individual needs and interests. Students are empowered to become self-directed learners and develop the habits, mindsets and behaviors that lead to academic and personal success.

Our scholars continue to be held to high expectations, but as MCA grows to serve more of Milwaukee’s children, we believe we must transform HOW we teach.

What does Personalized Learning look like for students at MCA?

Personalized learning encompasses so many aspects of great teaching already, but by utilizing Summit’s Personalized Learning Platform, we can really focus on ensuring that every student not only gets what he/she needs, but is also pushed to grow and achieve their personal and academic goals during their time here at MCA. Customized Instruction

Personalized learning helps teachers customize instruction—and empowers students to become self-directed learners.

Personalized Learning Plan

Every student has a Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) and is able to access all of the learning tools and resources they need at any time.

Exploration

Students are able to explore their individual passions, interests and careers options through unique programming and hands-on opportunities

A Laptop for Every Student

Friends of MCA have contributed over $20,000 to make ready-access to technology possible for the pilot’s students. Each student is assigned a laptop they use every day.

Critical Thinking

Scholars learn to think critically and solve complex problems, work collaboratively, and develop academic mindsets to be ready for college.

College Ready

Personlized Learning at MCA builds on our strong track record of 100% college acceptance for all graduating seniors, ensuring students go both to AND through college.

A Family of Learners

Every single student is known by every faculty and staff member. Our teachers continuously collaborate to ensure students have the feedback and support they need to become empowered learners. MCA students are assigned mentors to provide support, set goals and to make a plans to achieve those goals.

Connected to the Community

MCA values and cultivates strategic partnerships to help further the goals of the school and to help ensure MCA is providing high-quality options to its scholars and families.
